A Garden-Inspired Summer Tented Wedding at a Private Residence in Lemont, IL

As a wedding planner in Chicago, one of my favorite things to witness is two cultures coming together in a multicultural wedding celebration. Jadwiga and Yonas’s wedding had so many wonderful elements, from the beautiful clear-top tented reception to the merging of Ethiopian and Polish traditions. It was truly a magical day.

The Love Story

Jadwiga and Yonas’s story began when they met at Fremont in Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day, followed by dinner at Sweetwater Tavern and Grill where they stayed until the restaurant closed. A few years later they returned to Sweetwater, where Yonas romantically proposed. A full circle moment at the place where it all began.

The Vision

When it came to planning their wedding, Jadwiga and Yonas were excited to finally see their romantic outdoor vision come to life. We planned a dreamy summer wedding in the stunning backyard of Jadwiga’s brother’s home in Lemont, IL. Jadwiga envisioned a clear-top tent wedding with a garden feel, and we helped them find not only the perfect tent but the best vendor team to bring every detail of that vision to life.

For couples considering a tented wedding at a private residence in the Chicago suburbs, this celebration is a beautiful example of what’s possible when the planning is done right. A private home wedding requires a completely different approach than a traditional venue, from tent selection and flooring to restroom trailers, catering logistics, and power requirements. But when it comes together, the result is something no ballroom can replicate: a celebration that feels entirely, intimately yours.

The Morning

The day started with the bride and bridesmaids getting ready at Jadwiga’s parents’ home, a warm and personal start to the day. The festivities began with the arrival of a Polish Highlander Band, setting the tone for a celebration that was rooted in heritage and full of life from the very first moment.

The Ceremony: SS Cyril and Methodius Church

The wedding ceremony took place at Jadwiga’s childhood church, SS Cyril and Methodius Church in Lemont, IL, making it extra special for the bride and her parents. One of Jadwiga’s uncles surprised the couple with two white doves that Jadwiga and Yonas released after the ceremony, a beautiful and unexpected moment that set the tone for an afternoon full of sentiment and joy.

The Reception

After the ceremony, guests arrived at Jadwiga’s brother’s home for the reception. The clear-top tent was everything Jadwiga had envisioned: romantic bistro lights strung overhead, organic centerpieces on every table, and the beautiful summer sky transitioning from day to evening above them. The garden feel was lush and intimate, like stepping into a celebration that had been growing there all along.

And of course, you cannot have a Polish wedding without Polish vodka.

The reception was full of sentiment and fun, from heartfelt speeches by the best men and maids of honor to a fabulous setlist that merged popular wedding reception tunes with Polish and Ethiopian music. Watching Jadwiga and Yonas’s two families come together on that dance floor was one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed as a planner.
